5 Items To Always Keep In Your Car

Spring has well and truly sprung! With the longer evenings and the milder weather, it’s easy to forget that you can still have emergencies. Flat tyres, engine issues, and running out of fuel – these things don’t just happen in Winter. Plus, when they do happen, all too often the drivers and their passengers are left woefully ill-equipped and stranded at the side of a road.

5 Items To Always Keep In Your Car

It’s important to have an emergency kit in your vehicle all year round, and update it after the Winter months. You might never need to use it, but it’s good to know it’s there, just in case. Here’s what to put in yours:

1. Spare tyre

There’s nothing like breaking down at the side of the road and realising the spare tyre in the boot is also flat from the last time this happened. Saying that, some newer vehicles don’t have a spare tyre, nor do they have the space to carry one. If this applies to you, having a tyre repair kit will allow you to get to a garage for the tyre to be completely fixed or replaced.

2. First-aid kit

This needs to contain the basics for patching up in an emergency, including some spare cash and a phone charger. Drastic times call for drastic measures, and you never know when you might need a few extra euro. Similarly, you don’t want to get caught in a crisis with no means of communication.

3. Fuel

And we don’t mean in a jerry can in the boot – an unnecessary fire hazard. Getting into the habit of keeping your vehicle at least half full all year round will save you so much frustration and time in the long run. Running out of fuel can often damage some of the newer models.

4. Water

Carrying water is always a necessity, because who wants to be stranded on a warm day without water? Fresh water that is, rather than water bottles that have been laying in your car for weeks. This could also come in handy if you need to top up the windscreen washer bottle or on the rare occasion that your vehicle would overheat. Non-perishable snacks are also a must if you need to keep your energy up while waiting for your vehicle to be recovered.

5. Breakdown / Insurance company contact details

It’s always an excellent idea to keep these details in the car, just in case. 25plus.ie provide 24hour Roadside Assistance as standard with all comprehensive xtra policies. Contact Us for more information.
